Natsproektstroy Companies have completed the upgrade of Berkakit Station in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Now the largest railway hub in the Far North will be able to process long-range trains of up to 71 railcars.
Traffic control at the station has been digitized. The computer-based interlocking system designed and manufactured by Natsproektstroy Companies has been implemented here. It will remotely control point switches and traffic lights, and improve transportation safety.
Before the upgrade, the track development of Berkakit Station limited its capacity. Tracks, built almost half a century ago, were designed for trains of 56 railcars, which did not meet modern requirements.
The builders of Bamstroymechanizatsiya (part of Natsproektstroy) extended 12 receiving and departure tracks at the site, which made it possible to receive and form long-range trains.
To lengthen the subgrade, the machine operators processed 20 thousand cubic meters of soil and installed 1 culvert. 4.8 kilometers of new tracks, 24 air-blown point switches, radio communication masts, warm-up points, and fire tanks were installed at the station.
Berkakit is the largest station on the Far Eastern Mainline in terms of coal loading from deposits in South Yakutia. The upgrade of the station will increase the processing of the growing cargo flow to the railways of Yakutia and back to the Russian Railways network.
