“This summer, at SPIEF 2026, we laid the foundation stone for the new movable bridge as part of the Latitudinal Expressway project. Now, a crucial new phase has begun with the construction of the auxiliary temporary bridge,” noted St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov.

The temporary bridge is a service structure designed for heavy construction equipment used to build the permanent facilities. First, hollow steel pipe piles are vibro-driven into the riverbed, followed by the installation of standard superstructure sections. Special structures on the temporary bridge protect the permanent pier construction sites from ice drift impact.

In addition, DiM’s Mostootryad-99 has begun driving sheet piling for the left-bank pier No. 3. The sheet piling will enclose an excavation pit where the construction of bored piles for the pier foundation is set to begin shortly. This is the final land pier on the left bank; piers 4 through 9 will be river piers, while piers 10 and 11 will be constructed on the right bank.

Phase 4.1 of the Latitudinal Expressway project, carried out by NPS, is technically the most challenging. NPS is set to install 1,170 bored piles, pour 160,000 cubic meters of concrete, and assemble 16,000 tons of steel structures.
