Bamstroymechanizatsiya (part of Natsproektstroy) has installed the bulk of poles for the catenary system and began installing catenary for the electrification of Volochaevka-2 – Komsomolsk-on-Amur – Sovetskaya Gavan Lines in the Khabarovsk Region.
The builders have already installed more than 26,000 poles and more than 1,150 crossbars of portal structures. In total, the project will include more than 28,000 metal poles on railway hauls and about 1,700 crossbars at stations and sidings. 1,385 km of messenger wires and the same amount of catenary wires will be suspended from these structures.
Work is performed daily on 37 railway hauls and 34 stations. On average, builders install about 35 metal poles for catenary and high-voltage lines per day, and mount 3 km of messenger wire and catenary wire each.
Baikal–Amur Mainline is electrified in extremely challenging conditions, with heavy train traffic. Bamstroymechanizatsiya specialists, together with railway workers, schedule 'work windows' and coordinate the operational switching of sections.
The work is also hampered by the geological features of the area: water-logged ground, steep slopes, rock setups. Screw piles and reinforced concrete footings designed for extreme loads are used to ensure the stability of the poles in such areas. The steel structures for the catenary system are coated with an anti-corrosion compound that prolongs the service life of the equipment in the harsh conditions of the Far East. The delivery of materials and equipment to remote sites requires the use of specialized vehicles.
