The specialists of Natsproektstroy have reached 80% technical readiness of the main structures of Bolshoy Smolensky Bridge. Alexander Beglov, Governor of St. Petersburg, Andrey Kostin, President and Chairman of the Management Board of VTB Bank, and Alexey Krapivin, CEO of NPS, witnessed the progress of work.
"The bridge is almost completely ready, small vessels can already pass through it. When we started designing this bridge, we were told that it was impossible to do this because we did not have enough capabilities and engineering expertise. The bridge is here today, it is completely made of Russian materials and equipment. I thank the builders for lengths they went to," the mayor said.
"The construction of Bolshoy Smolensky Bridge is a huge step forward in the development of the city's transport infrastructure. This will make the city more convenient for St. Petersburg residents," Andrey Kostin emphasized.
All the main steel structures weighing 9 thousand tons are installed on the bridge. 8 out of 10 pillars are fully ready. The bridge workers are installing railings on the superstructure and have begun preparations for the construction of the roadway. The dismantling of temporary structures continues in the Neva River.
Cast-in-place concreting of service facilities and installation utilities are being completed on the fifth and sixth pillars of the bridge. These pillars are unique – they ensure the stability of the draw span, which, together with the counterweights, weighs more than 2.5 thousand tons. The bridge is now fully involved in Neva River navigation, while the superstructure is still being commissioned.
The builders of Roads and Bridges will also have to build three interchanges, which will integrate the structure into the city's road network – on Obukhovskaya Oborona Avenue, on Oktyabrskaya Embankment and at the intersection of Dalnevostochny Avenue with Kollontai Street.
The service on Bolshoy Smolensky Bridge is scheduled to start in 2027. This will reduce the load on the neighboring crossings – Alexander Nevsky Bridge and Volodarsky Bridge.
