Adler TPP

Central Federal District
Construction
Adler TPP was built in anticipation of the 2014 Winter Olympics. Before the combined cycle power plant was commissioned, Sochi’s energy infrastructure could only meet 25% of the city’s electricity demand, making a reliable power supply for the large-scale event a critical challenge.

Construction, which began in 2010, was completed on an accelerated timeline. The TPP with two stand-alone power units was completed in just three years. The power plant's compact design accounts for the elevated terrain, limited footprint, and seismic activity of the area. The plant uses dry cooling towers, which rely on air rather than water evaporation, instead of conventional systems.

The combined cycle technology ensures a high efficiency of 52% (compared with the 40% average for thermal power plants) and low natural gas fuel consumption. During the Olympics, Adler TPP supplied over a third of the peak load of the Sochi power district.
