Natsroektstroy Installs "Middle of BAM" Stele in Amur Region

A new stele designating the "Middle of BAM" was installed near Lopcha station in the northern part of the Amur Region, a joint initiative by Natsproektstroy and Russian Railways. The opening ceremony was attended by Alexey Antsiperov, CEO of Bamstroymekhanizatsiya (a subsidiary of Natsproektstroy), and Alexey Osipchuk, Deputy Chief Engineer for the Tynda Territorial Administration of the Far Eastern Railway. The event was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the famous BAM golden spike meeting at Balbukhta, which took place in September 1984.

The stele was erected at the 2,176th kilometer marker of the Lopcha–Elgakan section. It marks the midpoint of the 4,352-kilometer-long Baikal-Amur Mainline, running from Taishet to Sovetskaya Gavan. Made of metal and concrete, the monument features a map of the railway marking the "Middle of BAM." The structure is 20 meters wide and 8.5 meters high.

Equipped with solar-powered lighting, it will be visible to passengers on passing trains both day and night.

The ‘Middle of BAM’ stele is more than just an architectural landmark; it is a testament to the sheer scale of the project. It is a symbol that will remind everyone of the tremendous effort and the power that drove thousands of people forward, through the harsh taiga, severe frosts, and impenetrable wetlands, toward a great goal. The stele will become a new point of attraction on the map of the iconic railway, symbolizing the passing of the torch between generations of builders. "This monument stands as a tribute to the work of all those involved in the modernization of the Baikal-Amur Mainline,” Alexey Antsiperov emphasized during the opening ceremony.

As a reminder, under the second stage of the Eastern Range modernization, Natsproektstroy companies expanded nearly 1,000 kilometers of the BAM for second tracks and constructed around 900 artificial structures, including bridges and culverts. At present, NPS teams are implementing a major electrification project for the Volochayevka-2 – Komsomolsk-on-Amur – Sovetskaya Gavan track section of BAM.
