First Flight Lands on Elista Airport's Renovated Runway
Elista Airport, which is being reconstructed by Transstroymechanizatsiya (Natsproektstroy's subsidiary), has reopened for operations.

Today, the first aircraft touched down on the renovated runway. As tradition dictates, fire engines greeted it with a water arch — a symbol of triumph and a new milestone in the life of the capital of Kalmykia's air gateway.
This ceremonial practice originated in maritime tradition. In the past, ships entering a harbour for the first time were welcomed with cannon salutes. Later, fireboats took on the role of honouring vessels, launching powerful water jets into the air. Nowadays, in aviation, this water "show" is staged on landmark occasions: the first flight to a new airport, the opening of a route, or a pilot's final flight.
The Transstroymechanizatsiya team continues its reconstruction operations. Company's personnel are installing power supply networks, stormwater and drainage systems, and visual approach lighting equipment. Work on the apron is still ahead.
