In the Khabarovsk Krai, NPS unit Bamstroymekhanizatsiya has completed the 3 kilometers of the first subgrade layer for the Komsomolsk-on-Amur – Chegdomyn highway and moved 30,000 cubic meters of earth.
The 17-kilometer section of the regional highway runs through a permafrost zone. Currently, the builders are reinforcing the embankment and performing a scope of work designed to prevent the melting of the frozen ground. To provide a reliable subgrade under the highway, the top vegetation layer is not removed after clearing the right-of-way; instead, a layer of soil is immediately backfilled and compacted with rollers. At the next stage, a synthetic fabric—Geospan—is laid. It separates the soil layers and filters water. To date, 20,000 sq.m of the fabric has already been installed.
The builders will install 22 culverts and 2 bridges over mountain streams flowing from the Bureinsky Ridge spurs. The total volume of earthworks, including embankments and the crushed stone pavement structure, will reach nearly 1 million cubic meters.
Komsomolsk-on-Amur-Chegdomyn Regional Highway will connect 17 settlements located along the eastern section of Baikal–Amur Mainline. The width of the roadway will be 6 meters.
