GC NPS, JSC handed over the model to the Museum of Bridges
The ceremony of handing over the unique model of the Big Smolensk Bridge to the Museum of Bridges took place at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The construction of the first drawbridge for 40 years is carried out by the company “Roads and Bridges” of the GC NPS, JSC.
Mikhail Grigoriev, the general director of DiM, and Alexander Sakharov, the head of the Federal Agency for Railway Transportation, put their signatures in the document fixing the intentions of the parties.
"It is a great honor and responsibility for our company to build a bridge in the city, which is rightfully famous for them. We have attracted for this purpose our best specialists, the most reliable contractors, the most experienced designers. The work is going on day and night, ahead of schedule. We expect to hand over the bridge to the city in 2028. And today we are handing over the model of the bridge to the only specialized Museum of Bridges in the country, where every citizen of St. Petersburg and city guest can see the glorious achievements of our predecessors", - said Mikhail Grigoriev.
Addressing the audience, Alexander Sakharov noted: "The construction of the Big Smolensk Bridge is a significant infrastructure project not only for St. Petersburg, but also for the whole country. And we are very glad that the model of such a unique structure will be available to everyone in the Museum of Bridges. This will be a great step in training future bridge engineers and in preserving the continuity of generations. It is very important that schoolchildren, coming on excursion to the Museum of Bridges, saw not only historical exhibits, but also models of modern projects, and got the desire to create such structures themselves. All the more so because they have a place to learn how to do it at the St. Petersburg State University of Railway Transport".
The uniqueness of the model is not only in the size of 2000x4000 mm. The Big Smolensk Bridge is made in two scales with a high degree of detail. The spans of the structure are unfolded, sidewalks and roadway are illuminated by lights, and a streetcar runs along the rails across the bridge.
During SPIEF-2025 guests and participants of the forum will be able to see the model at the official stand of St. Petersburg. After the event, the model will take its place of honor in the Museum of Bridges, where everyone will be able to get acquainted with it.
The Museum of Bridges is a branch of the Central Museum of Railway Transport of the Russian Federation, located in St. Petersburg. It is the only museum in the country specializing in bridge structures. In its funds there are more than 100 unique models of engineering structures of the XVIII and early XIX centuries. The collection also includes 19 models of St. Petersburg bridges, many of which have not survived.
The Big Smolensky Bridge across the Neva River is part of a new thoroughfare that is being built in the Nevsky district of the city and will connect the Big Smolensky Avenue, Obukhovskoy Defense Avenue, Kollontai Street, Dalnevostochny Avenue and Oktyabrskaya Embankment. The opening of working traffic on the bridge is scheduled for 2028, the completion of the highway with all interchanges - for 2029.
