After successful completion of comprehensive tests, the modernized power unit №13 of Surgutskaya GRES-1 of PJSC OGK-2 (part of Gazprom Energoholding), the fifth largest thermal power plant in Russia in terms of installed capacity, was put into commercial operation.
Surgutskaya GRES-1 accounts for more than 17% of the installed electric capacity of the Tyumen Region. Modernization of the power unit, which has been in operation for over 40 years, has increased the thermal capacity of the thermal power plant. This is not the only ongoing project in the portfolio of power facilities of our construction holding. In parallel, GC NPS, JSC's thermal power engineers are constructing Artemovskaya TPP-2 in Primorsky Krai, Svobodnenskaya TPP in Amur Oblast, and Tuimaada TPP in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)," said Alexey Krapivin, CEO of GC NPS, JSC .
Commissioning was preceded by comprehensive tests, which included determination of the lower limit of active power, speeds of load pickup and reduction, readiness to participate in the general primary frequency control. Within 72 hours the main generating and auxiliary equipment of the power unit operated at the maximum capacity of 190 MW," said Ruslan Shkhalakhov, Chief Engineer of the Surgutskaya GRES-1 Construction Department of TEK Mosenergo (part of GC NPS, JSC).
The next stage will be the equipment's entry into the Russian wholesale power and capacity market.
The project for modernization of power unit №13 at Surgutskaya GRES-1 included replacement of steam turbine, turbogenerator, auxiliary heat and mechanical and electrical equipment, automated process control system equipment, relay and automatic equipment, and installation of a new auxiliary power transformer. Within the framework of this project, the specialists of GC NPS, JSC performed design, supply of main and auxiliary equipment, construction, installation and commissioning works.
The works started in January 2023 with the dismantling of equipment, pipelines, service areas and foundations, including the foundation of the turbine unit. The total weight of equipment and building structures dismantled from the cell of power unit №13 was more than 5,000 tons. Power engineers erected a new turbine unit foundation, metal and reinforced concrete turbine service platforms, mounted the turbine and generator, electrical and process equipment, ACS equipment, process pipelines. A total of 1,700 specialists were involved in the works.
At the same time, GC NPS, JSC specialists are modernizing power unit №16: at the moment, the power transformer, a group of high and low pressure heaters have been installed, the generator and turbine are being assembled, as well as the steel structures of service areas, electrical and heat-mechanical equipment, and process pipelines.
Modernization of Surgutskaya GRES-1 with a capacity of 3,333 MW, the oldest plant in Western Siberia, is carried out within the framework of priority investment projects of the state program of competitive selection of modernizable capacities (COMMod). As a result of replacing the steam condensing turbine with a heat recovery turbine, the electrical capacity of power unit №13 will amount to 190 MW, and the thermal capacity of the plant will increase by 148 Gcal/h to 1,051 Gcal/h. The customer of the works is PJSC OGK-2 (part of Gazprom Energoholding).
