GC NPS, JSC companies complete installation of the water drainage system in the “Tsar's” Kerak tunnel is completing the installation of a drainage system in the old Kerak tunnel on the Trans-Siberian Railway.
Once completed, it will serve as an auxiliary drainage structure for the new tunnel, opening in 2023.
The old Kerak Tunnel was built back in the Tsarist era, in 1911. Over more than a century of operation, the structure became dilapidated: water seeped inside, stalactites grew on the walls, and ice and icicles appeared in cold weather due to leaks.
The builders of the National Design Construction Company carried out a large-scale reconstruction of the century-old structure, completely replaced the lining and strengthened the vaults. In order to prevent leaks, a water drainage system was provided. Now they are finishing the construction of concrete troughs and ditches, their total length will be 16 kilometers.
Ventilation, hundreds of sensors for monitoring equipment parameters, more than 33 km of power and fiber-optic cables were installed in the old tunnel.
The service life of the old Kerak Tunnel after reconstruction will be at least 100 years.
