The 47.7 km long North-West Bypass of Kemerovo significantly shortened the R-255 Siberia federal motorway from Novosibirsk to Irkutsk, which previously ran through downtown Kemerovo.

The bridge was built by Mostostroy-11 under the project of Institute Stroyproekt (both companies are part of Natsproektstroy).

The project was completed ahead of schedule, in just two years. Optimal engineering solutions were used to erect the bridge span: incremental launching, which considerably accelerated span erection. The spans were assembled on a special 120 metre long slipway installed on the left bank of the Tom River.

A special role was played by the launching nose, a lightweight structure that reduced the mass of the span and made the erection process more efficient.

The bridge was named Star Bridge (Zvezdny) after online voting by Kuzbass residents in 2023.
