Specialists of TEK Mosenergo (part of Natsproektstroy Group) have completed the upgrade of Surgut SDPP-1 Power Unit 16. It is the fifth largest thermal power plant in Russia by installed capacity. For this project, Natsproektstroy engineers have designed and supplied main and auxiliary equipment, performed construction, installation and commissioning.
"The integrated upgrade of the power unit included the replacement of a steam turbine and generator, thermal-mechanical and electrical equipment, and the introduction of a modern process control system. After replacement and commissioning, the main generating and auxiliary equipment of the power unit passed integrated tests with a rated capacity of 215 MW," said Sergey Sorokin, CEO of TEK Mosenergo JSC.
The next stage will be the commercial operation permit and equipment's entry into the wholesale electricity and capacity market in Russia.
The upgrade of Power Unit 16 began in January 2023 with the dismantling of equipment that has operated for over 40 years, pipelines, service platforms and foundations, including replacement of the top foundation of the turbine unit. The total weight of the equipment and building structures dismantled from the cell of Power Unit 16 amounted to more than 4,000 tons.
Earlier in June 2025, Mosenergo TEK's specialists completed the upgrade of Power Unit 13 of Surgut SDPP-1. As a result of the replacement of the steam condensing turbine with a heating turbine, the electric capacity of the power unit is 190 MW, and the thermal capacity of the plant has increased by 148 Gcal/h to 1,051 Gcal/h.
3,333 MW Surgut SDPP-1, the oldest power plant in Western Siberia, is being upgraded as part of priority investment projects under the state programme for competitive upgraded capacity auction. The customer is OGK-2 PJSC (part of Gazprom Energoholding).
