For the first time in Kaliningrad, GC NPS, JSC companies installed a digital arrow at a streetcar intersection

For the first time in Kaliningrad, GC NPS, JSC companies installed an automated streetcar arrow at the intersection of Bagration and Oktyabrskaya Streets.
Streetcar routes No. 3 and No. 5 diverge at the section where the modern arrow was installed: one goes to Yuzhny Vokzal, the other to Alley of the Bold. It took a lot of time to pass the intersection: the streetcar driver had to step out onto the roadway and leave the doors open. All these are risks for traffic safety. The arrow switch was switched manually, using a crowbar.

The digital system will allow the driver to switch the streetcar to the required track without leaving the cabin and without stopping the traffic, the idle time of the cars at the intersection will be reduced many times.
In addition, the automation will control the weather factor: in case of snowfall the system turns on heating, the snow melts and does not interfere with the passage.

In the future, the technology can be replicated throughout the entire streetcar network of Kaliningrad. This will speed up the traffic flow, reduce the intervals between streetcars, and increase the reliability of transportation.

Similar digital complexes of GC NPS, JSC's own design and production are installed on streetcar lines in Moscow - in the capital more than 200 switches on 38 routes have already been equipped with them.

Kaliningrad's streetcar network is the westernmost in Russia and has been in operation since 1895. It is one of the three surviving systems in the country with a one-meter gauge, the other two are located in Pyatigorsk.
